Tyler Boxwell, a left-handed hitting catcher at Verrado, has verbally committed to play at Southeast Missouri State (SEMO) next season. One of the top 2012 catchers in Arizona, Boxwell is fresh off of a big junior campaign for the Vipers that earned him Arizona 4A All-Region honors after leading his team to a Region Championship. He was also recuited by Utah, St Mary's of CA, Grand Canyon, and Siena College.
The 6-foot 180-pounder posted a .392 batting average with 29 RBI, 21 runs, 12 doubles, 5 triples and 3 home runs while posting a .589 OBP and .689 SLG during his junior campaign. An accurate, strong-armed catcher, not many teams attempted to run on the Vipers but he did throw out 9 of 15 base runners. As a sophomore, he threw out 26 of 45 would be base stealers.
This summer he continued with John Gracio's LA Angels Scout Team where they finished ranked #22 in the Nation after winning several tournaments in Arizona and producing a big showing at the Perfect Game World Wood Bat Championships in Georgia. He is the 8th Angels Scout Team player to commit this fall (11 total).
